Gaeltacht Bursaries

Appointment of Gaeltacht Tourism Officer widely welcomed - Highland Radio - Latest Donegal News and Sport

Each year St Kevin's Community College are in a position to offer some Gaeltacht bursaries to our students. If you would like your child to be considered for a Gaeltacht bursary please fill in the form below.

Typically we have two types of bursary:

DEIS Bursary

Galway & Roscommon ETB administer a DEIS Bursary fund on behalf or the Department of the Gaeltacht. These can typically cover the vast majority of the course fees for a Gaeltacht course.

GRETB usually contact the school seeking applications from students. The application requires families to have booked the course in advance, with proof of payment provided, and the turnaround time for the application has been very short in the past.

GRETB have sent the following information:

Please refer to the FAQs and note the following:

  1. Each school may submit up to 4 applications for consideration in this DEIS Scholarship Scheme
  2. If your school is participating in the scholarship scheme, you are required to designate a member of your staff to co-ordinate and submit the application(s) from your school using the online application process
  3. Only valid applications will be considered, i.e., those with documentary evidence of the student having secured a place in a recognised Gaeltacht summer college.
  4. The awarding of scholarships is based on a strictly first come, first served basis of valid applications received.
  5. Links to Summer colleges are in the FAQs.

As applications are on a first come basis, we don't wish to miss out on the possibility of securing places for our students, as a result we have to ask that the expression of interest below before 4pm on Friday 4th October 2024. We appreciate that this is a tight timeline but we have to work with the scheme guidelines.

KWETB Bursary

KWETB fund a number of bursaries, typically to the value of €100 - €250. This value is paid to the successful students parent, through the school, upon submission of proof of payment for an upcoming Gaeltacht course.

Allocation of Bursaries

As the interest is often greater than the number of places available, we will need to prioritise students who will be entering 3rd or 6th year in the next academic year. Students who have not availed of a scholarship may be prioritised over those who have benefitted in the past also.

Students will be selected by means of a lottery system and an ordered list will be produced, taking the previous criteria into account. When we are notified of available schemes we will offer them, in order to those on the list.

If you are interested, please fill in the form at the link below. We will be in touch once we have details of the available places. At this stage we do not know what allocation we will have for the current school year.
